This is a work about discovering the origin of a pain that takes root in the body as early as childhood, and the silence that shielded it for years. We follow a man through the labyrinth of his own identity: how does one build oneself when the very foundation was already cracked from the start? Between the numbness of everyday life and the brink of despair, he reaches the point of no return: ‘either I tell my story, or I die’. It is an account of the initial stammer, of anguish and desire, in a world that demands constant pleasure and perfection, whilst his own body becomes the sole ‘impossibility’. A revelation that is, above all, a beginning.
The encyclopaedia is a project comprising three parts: a trilogy on the stages of life, centred on the notion of pain and the construction of our bodies and identities. It explores the price we pay when we lack a narrative, when parts of the story are left out, or when gaps remain as we grow up.
It is not a strictly autobiographical project, but it draws on personal, family and cultural experiences. It involves a reworking and exploration of experience that aims to serve as a link to more universal experiences. There is also a reflection on structural and historical aspects.
